Immigration to Slovakia: step-by-step procedure

01

Consultation with a specialist

At the beginning, the specialist analyses the applicant's documents and checks whether he or she meets the requirements of Slovak law. The possible grounds for obtaining citizenship - by naturalisation, descent or marriage - are considered. After assessing the situation, a strategy is developed for the best way to apply for a passport.

02

Preparation of documents

If the applicant fulfils the conditions, the paperwork is started. Certificates are collected, notarised, translated and filled out in accordance with the requirements of the Slovak authorities. In addition, proof of integration into society, language level and financial stability are prepared. All documentation is legally checked before submission.

03

Submission of the application

The complete package is sent to the competent authority in the place of residence. After registration, the official review begins. As a rule, a language test and an interview are required. Depending on the complexity of the case, the processing time can take from a few months to two years.

04

Completion of the procedure

In case of a favourable decision, the date of swearing the oath of allegiance to the Slovak Republic is set. After that, a personal identification number is issued and the new citizen is finally registered in the system.

05

Issuance of internal documents package

The last step is the issuance of a passport and ID-card, as well as, if necessary, a tax number and registration in social structures. From this moment on, the new Slovak citizen receives all the rights of an EU resident, including freedom of movement, access to the medical and educational system, the possibility of doing business and receiving financial services in the EU countries.
