The process of obtaining Croatian citizenship

01

Personal consultation and selection of grounds

Lawyers analyze the client's situation and determine the appropriate grounds for obtaining citizenship — by origin, marriage, naturalization, belonging to the Croatian people, or other options provided by law. If necessary, specialists help find archival documents and confirm the right to citizenship.

02

Preparation of the dossier

A complete set of documents is compiled: birth and marriage certificates, certificates of no criminal record, proof of address, and archival extracts about ancestors. Lawyers compile the applicant's biography in Croatian with justification for obtaining citizenship and fill out official application forms (Obrazac 1, 2, or 3). All foreign documents are apostilled and translated by sworn translators.

03

Personal submission of the application

The applicant submits the documents in person at the Croatian consulate or embassy in his/her place of residence, or at the administrative police department if he/she is in the country. Our specialists provide full preparation for the submission and coordinate the process with the state authorities.

04

Application review

The Croatian Ministry of the Interior checks the documents and may request additional information. The entire process takes 1 to 2 years, during which our lawyers accompany the client at every stage and help them respond to requests from state authorities in a timely manner.

05

Obtaining citizenship and documents

Once approved, the applicant receives an official decision, Rješenje o primitku u hrvatsko državljanstvo. Based on this, a Domovnica (extract from the gradan register), Croatian birth certificate, and passport are issued. The applicant becomes a full citizen of Croatia and the EU, and our lawyers monitor the process until the final documents are received.
