Procedure for obtaining a Spanish passport

01

Preparatory stage

The process starts with an analysis of your migration history and legal status. The lawyer identifies the possible grounds, from naturalisation to marriage or birth in Spain, assesses the appropriateness of the period of residence and prepares a scheme of action.

02

Document preparation

At this stage, a personalised package of documents is prepared. It includes proof of legal residence, certificates of criminal record, examination certificates (DELE and CCSE) as well as translations and authorisations. The entire file undergoes a final legal check before submission.

03

Application and administrative control

Documents are submitted through the online system of the Ministerio de Justicia or in person. A formal review begins, in which the authorities verify the data and, if necessary, may request additional information or call for an interview.

04

Decision and Oath

After approval, the applicant is notified and invited to the local municipality. The final step is to take the oath of allegiance to Spain, without which citizenship is not possible.

05

Registration of national documents

After the oath, a Spanish passport and ID card (DNI) are issued, as well as, if necessary, a NIE - Foreigner Identification Number. From this moment on, the person is officially recognised as a Spanish citizen and receives all the associated rights within the EU.
